Playhead Control Disk
Summary:
If you are looking for an MP3 interface design that is compact, but still has all the playhead controls that other MP3 interfaces have, then this is the design you are looking for. In this tutorial, we create a compact and circular playhead control interface.
Step-By-Step Instructions:
1. Open a new document in Photoshop. Set the width/height to 300x300px.
2. Create a new layer. Name it "Disk".
3. Select the Eliptical Marquee tool. Hold down the shift key and drag a perfect circle selection.
4. Use the Paint Bucket tool and fill the selection with grey.

5. Right click the Disk layer from the layers palette. Choose "Blending Options" from the pop-up list.
6. Set the properties for "Drop Shadow" to the following:

8. Set the properties for "Gradient Overlay" to the following:

9. Click OK to accept changes and you should have the following image.

10. With "Disk" layer active, goto Layer > Duplicate Layer...
11. When pop-up window appears, name the layer "Center Button". Click OK.
12. Click Ctrl+T to enter Free Transform mode and resize and position the "Circle Button" layer over the "Disk" layer.

13. Make sure the "Disk" layer is the active layer.
14. Select the Rectangular Marquee tool. Create a thin vertical selection going down the center of the "Disk" layer.
15. Click the Delete key.

16. Select the Rectangular Marquee tool. Create a thin horizontal selection going across the center of the "Disk" layer.
17. Click the Delete key.

18. Now select the Custom Shape tool. Choose shapes that represent the buttons of your interface and draw them over the sectioned off areas. When you are done, your image should look something like the following:
